About DPC

What I Like About Direct Primary Care (DPC)

I grew up in a large medical practice. I had many medical problems and needed lots of follow up appointments. I remember being told I needed to make an appointment 3 months out on the day the schedule opened, otherwuse it would fill up and I could not get an appointment with my doctor. All sick visits needed to be seen at urgent care, by a doctor who did not know you or your history.

I have worked for a hospital-owned practice, private-equity-owned practice, and a physician-owned practice. I would love to say that there was a major difference between them, but there wasn’t. Each wanted to see more patients in less time to maximize profits. Choices were made on what was best for the bottom line, not what was best for patients. All while fighting with insurances who want to pay less and less every year and create more hurdles to care.

I want to change all of that. I value being able to see your physician who knows you. I like to take time with and form bonds with my patients and families, and thus become very protective of them. I am not okay with them getting substandard care by someone who does not know their history. Medicine is a science, but it is also an art. Someone who does not know you or your unique situation is at a disadvantage for making the right choice for you. I do not want to just bring in more patients, make an appointment just so I can charge insurance, follow guidelines that insurance companies made up that hamper your access to care. I want to take out the middle man so you and I can make the best choices for your child’s care.
